Heimdall is an Aesir god, and known for being the guardian of the gods and Asgard. His horn, Gjallarhorn is used only to signal when enemies are approaching. He has golden teeth, and dwells in a place called Himinbjörg. Heimdall sits at the top of the Bifrost, guarding the bridge with his keen eyesight and hearing, in which he can see from hundreds of miles away, and hear the grass grow.
It is said that Heimdall is the “Father of Mankind,” as he went around on earth and slept with three different women making three different social classes. The first child to be born was named Thrall, (which means serf in Norse) who was an unattractive but strong boy, and he was said to be the predecessor of all serfs. The second was Karl, (meaning farmer in Norse) and he was said to be the predecessor of all farmers. The third and the last was Jarl, (meaning nobleman in Norse) and he was extremely handsome, and intellectual and courageous. He is said to be the predecessor of all warriors and nobles. Heimdall’s death comes during Ragnarok, when he sounds the final horn with the Gjallarhorn. As the frost giants raid the rest of existence, Loki, the god of mischief, and Heimdall slaughter each other. |
